Day 2 March 8 2024 Good Friday (Taipei, Taiwan) - my 2nd day in Taipei, focusing my visit to major touristy places in Taipei City. Rewinding my memory of Taipei (places like Ximending, Shilin Night Market, National Palace Museum, Liberty Square, Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101 etc) as my last visit to Taipei was in Nov 2004, 20 years ago !
1) Early morning walkabout in Ximending area nearby New World Hotel.
2) Group's breakfast in a noodle restaurant in Ximending, Taipei City, savoured a bowl of wantan noodle soup NT$70 (Rm10.50) & a plate of braised pork leg noodle NT$100 (Rm15) for 2.
3) Nishi Honganji Square (Western Temple of the Original Vow) & Bell Tower, Zhonghua Road, Taipei City - Japanese style building built in 1904 > 1912, now a small park.
4) Graphics (Wall Mural) of Taiwan History near Zhonghua Road, Taipei City
5) Metro train ride from Ximen Metro Station > Chiang Kai Sek Station, Taipei City.
6) National Theater & Concert Hall, Zhongzhen District, Taipei City - both are twin performing arts venues at Liberty Square, Taipei City
7) Liberty Square, Democracy Square & Democracy Boulevard, Zhongzheng Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City - a public plaza covering over 240,000 sq meters in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei, served as the city's public gathering place of choice since its completion in the late 1970s.
8) Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall, Zhongzhen District, Taipei City - a national monument & tourist attraction erected in memory of Chiang Kai Sek, former President of Taiwan, the monument is surrounded by a park, stands at the east end of Memorial Hall Square.
9) Changing of Guards Ceremony, Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall, Zhongzhen District, Taipei City - the Honor Guard changes on the hour every hour between 09.00 > 17.00, a total of 9 changes daily, each change takes approx 10 minutes, timing of my visit coincided with the starting of the Honor Guard changes ceremony.
10) Japanese Cherry Garden & Cherry Blossom Trail - cherry blossoms in the memorial park besides the Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall Complex, Taipei City
11) Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall Complex, Taipei City - 70m in height & features white walls & blue tiles, a museum documenting Chiang's life & career, exhibits of pictures of President Chiang Kai Sek & The Republic of China, Taiwan Long Walk to Freedom of Speech, Chiang's official work place, vintage cars display, souvenir shop etc
12) The Gate of Great Piety, Chiang Kai Sek Memorial, Zhongshan Road, Taipei City
13) Love Street, Taipei City
14) Metro train ride from Chiang Kai Sek Station > Zhongxiao Xinsheng & a 10 mins walk to Huashan 1914 Creative Park, Taipei City
15) Our group's lunch in a buffet restaurant in downtown Taipei City, savoured a plate each of mixed vegetable / tofu / chicken + rice totalled NT$215 = Rm32.25 for 2, followed by a plate of carrot cakes NT$35 (Rm5.25) & a soya milk drink NT$22 (Rm3.30) at a snack food stall next door !
16) Huashan 1914 Creative Arts Park, Bade Road, Zhongzhen District, Taipei City - originally a winery, the park is now an important events venue, many large scale exhibitions are held here.

18) National Taipei University of Technology, Zhongxiao Road, Taipei City.
19) Bus ride from National University of Technology > Taipei 101
20) Taipei 101, Taipei City - formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center, is a skyscraper in Taipei, Taiwan, the building was officially classified as the world's tallest from its opening in Dec 2004, a title held until 2009 ! The 89th floor Observation Deck offers a 360 degree city views.
21) Taipei World Trade Center & the surrounding, Xinyi Road, Taipei City
22) Taipei City Hall Square, Xinyi District, Taipei City - New Year fireworks & other seasonal celebrations in a parklike city hall plaza with fountains.
23) The National Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall, Xinyi District, Taipei City - a memorial to the Republic of China National Father, Dr Sun Yat Sen, completed in 1972.
24) Zhongshan Park, Taipei City - a peaceful city park with an expansive memorial hall, gardens, green space & a lake
25) Metro train ride from Chiang Kai Sek Station > Ximen Station > a walk to New World Hotel
25) Savoured a plate of xiaolongbao NT$90 (Rm13.50) nearby New World Hotel.
