Day 11 March 17 2024 Sunday (Taichung, Taiwan) - looking forward to fulfil my belated dream of seeing the Sun Moon Lake with my wife - a visit long overdue !
1) Complementary buffet breakfast in Chance Hotel, Taichung - eat slightly more to generate sufficient calories for my whole day outing to Sun Moon Lake today !
2) Nantou Gancheng Station, Taichung - there are 2 bus companies offering public transport services from here to Sun Moon Lake & Qingjing Farm so pick your choice & swipe your EasyCard to pay for the fares (NT$71 = Rm10.65 one way, discounted rate).
3) Puli Town, Taichung - a quick glimpse of this suburban town as viewed from the moving bus's windows ! A bus transit town for visitors coming from Sun Moon Lake or Qingjing Farm to ferry you back to Taichung City day & night !
4) Countryside scenery from Puli > Sun Moon Lake as viewed from the moving bus's windows - so just relax & enjoy the bus ride !
Sun Moon Lake (Elevation 748m), Nantou District - located in the foothills of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range, surrounded by forested peaks & has foot trails, east of the lake, the Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village is a theme park with a section devoted to re-created indigenous villages, displays here include centuries old carved lintel pieces, handicrafts & weapons, The Sun Moon Lake Ropeway cable car offers views of the mountains & water.
5) Sun Moon Lake Bus Terminal Center - took a Sun Moon Lake round the island tourist shuttle bus from here (just queue up & take the next available tourist bus & pay the bus fare NT$22 = Rm3.30) by swiping your EasyCard when boarding) & also for your return bus journey to Taichung. You could also inquire & book your shuttle boat + cable car tickets from a ticketing booth here.
6) Walkabout in Yuchi town prior to boarding a tourist shuttle bus for a round the island visit.
7) On board the Sun Moon Lake tourist shuttle bus to Wen Wu Temple (1st stop)
8) Walkabout in Wen Wu Temple (built in 1938), Sun Moon Lake, my next stop is Sun Moon Lake Cable Car Station
9) Songbolun Trail, Sun Moon Lake - a small walk from Wen Wu temple > Songbolun
10) Sun Moon Lake Cable Car (Ropeway) Station - a touristy place & Instagram spot; you could take the cable car to Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village or a vice versa cable car ride back to the station.
11) Walking trail from Sun Moon Lake Cable Car Station > Ita Thao Visitor Centre (550m), take it easy & enjoy the lakeside scenery as you walk & walk !
12) Ita Thao Visitor Center, Sun Moon Lake - a boat shaped building, next to the Ita Thao Wharf.
13) Ita Thao Wharf, Sun Moon Lake, Taichung - cute green frog statutes lining up to greet visitors with a smile minus a frog cloaking sound to cheer at you ! A very scenic spot of Sun Moon Lake especially during the evening when the sun sets !
14) Ita Thao Shopping District, Yiyong Street, Yuchi Township, Nantou County - as it was a Sunday weekend, the narrow street was packed with visitors & tourists, a roaring business for the F & B stalls here !
15) Ita Thao Bus Stop, Sun Moon Lake - taking a tourist shuttle bus back to the Sun Moon Lake Bus Terminal, a long queue of waiting (30 minutes) at the Sun Moon Lake Bus Terminal to board the 1st available Nan Tou Bus to drive us back to the Taichung City ! My wife looked forward for a good rest in the hotel as soon as the bus arrived in Taichung City !
