Thailand (Post Covid-19 Overseas Visit No 2 - My 13 days in Hatyai, Songkhla, Hua Hin & Bangkok, Thailand) Nov 20 > Dec 2 2022 (Day 8 Sunday Part 1)

Day 8 Sunday Nov 27 2022 - My 3rd day in Bangkok, focusing our group's visit to Wat Arun (via Chao Phraya tour boat cruise), The Ministry of Defence, The Grand Palace, Icon Siam Shopping Mall & an evening visit to Bangkok Chinatown. A very productive day indeed, using a combination of public transport ie tour boats (60bht), BTS skytrain, MRT & local buses to get to the destinations ! Total public transport cost incurred today 323bht (Rm42) per pax

1) A panoramic view of Bangkok city as viewed from the 20th floor of the Banghkok City Hotel, Petchathewi, Bangkok.

2) My yummy buffet breakfast at the Hotel's cafe ! Nice ambience, good food & good company ! 


3) Group's meet up (09.30) in Saphan Taksin BTS station Exit 2 for a tourist boat ride (Blue Line) from Sathorn Pier to Wat Arun. 


4) Boarding the Hop On & Hop Off tourist boat (Blue Line) from Sathorn Pier for our Chao Phraya Riverboat cruise, single ticket 30bht (Rm3.90 = US$0.90), you can opt for buying a Day Pass (unlimited rides) by paying 150bht (Rm19.50). Our group took 2 riverboat cruises, one from Sathorn Pier to Wat Arun & another from Wat Arun to Phra Arithit Pier!

6) Arriving at the Wat Arun Pier - as none of our group members were keen to visit the Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn - admission fee 100bht = Rm13.00), we decided to move on after taking a few pictures of this famous temple from the external compound (over the last 10 years, I had visited this temple 3-4 times) .... 


7) Continued our river boat cruise from Wat Arun > Phra Arthit (last stop), enjoying the sea breeze & admiring the scenery ...

9) Visited Ministry of Defence, a historic building in Bangkok's Phra Nakhon District, European style building built in 1884,  located opposite the Grand Palace on Sanam Chai Road in the heart of the historic Rattanakosin island. 


10) The Grand Palace - a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, the palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam since 1762, the King, his court & his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925; admission fee 500bht (Rm65 = US$15), our group skipped entering the internal palace compounds & decided to pay a visit to Icon Siam Shopping Mall instead ! My last visit to The Grand Palace was in 2002 !
