Day 2 Monday Nov 21 2022 - My 2nd day in Hat Yai, today our group's itinerary mainly focused on a visit to Kim Yong Market (including having our breakfast there) followed by a van ride (34bht) to Songkhla located 28km from Hat Yai town, this was my 2nd visit to Songkhla (last visit was in Aug 2017).
Travel itinerary: Hat Yai > Songkhla = approx 28km by public van.
1) Morning walk from Red Planet Hotel > Kim Yong Market, Hat Yai - busy busy morning, interesting to watch locals shopping for fresh food such as meat, fish, produce & consumption-oriented perishable goods in a non-supermarket setting !
2) Our group's breakfast in Kim Yong Market, Hat Yai, Thailand, bought street food ie dumplings, fried dough, steamed rice rolls, roasted pork from nearby stalls & ate together with other food ie pork porridge or noodles (normally served in small portion so for big eater, you may have to order additional bowl or other finger food to whet your appetite) in a local restaurant in Kim Yong Market!

3) After the breakfast, our group walked to the Hat Yai Clock Tower where we boarded a public van (34bht = Rm4.40) for our day visit to Songkhla (approx 28km from Hat Yai)

4) Songkhla City, Samila Beach & Golden Mermaid - a popular touristy place in Songkhla! My 2nd visit to Samila beach together with my Klang & Singapore buddies when I made my "maiden" visit to this Southern Thailand coastal town in Aug 2017!

5) A local Thai Temple, near Samila Beach, Songkhla
6) Consul General Malaysia, Songkhla, Thailand
7) Tang Huang Hill Lift Station, Songkhla, Thailand - so near yet so far, the Lift Station was closed at 11.00 & re-opened at 14.00, so our group decided to skip visiting this place! What a disappointment!
8) The Great Serpent "Nag" - this iconic landmark & place are currently under renovation so not much action!
9) Chumporn Khete Udomsak Memorial Station (Founder of Thai Navy), Songkhla, Thailand
10) At The Second Nag Sea Turtle Conservation Centre, Royal Thai Navy, Songkhla, Thailand
11) A local worker gave our group a free lift & found us a local tuk tuk after 2km of driving (thanks to this red shirt Samaritan) in order for our group to continue our visit to the Songkhla Oldtown, the last visit of the day!
12) Maritime Silk Road Heritage, Naikorng Nai Road, Bo Yang, Songkhla, Thailand - free admission, exhibits of some shipwreck artefacts (porcelain wares of Ming dynasty) from ancient maritime silk road en route from China > Middle East & Europe. A surprise visit to this heritage museum when the tuk tuk driver dropped our group in front of this unique old shop lot (not known to us) in the middle of the Songhkla Oldtown! A surprise visit but a very rewarding one especially for history junkie like me!
13) Our group's lunch at a noodle food stall behind the Heritage
14) Red Mill Plant, Songkhla, Thailand - also known as Hub Ho Hin Rice Mill, an old heritage building near the waterfront area in the Songhkla Oldtown.
15) Songkhla Oldtown, Thailand - an iconic landmark!
16) Street Art, Songkhla Old Town - posing a picture mimicking the figures in a comical manner ....
17) Walkabout from Clock Tower > Hat Yai Railway Station to purchase our sleeper train tickets from Hat Yai > Hua Hin after our Songkhla visit.
18) Evening walk in Lee Garden Plaza & Hotel & Night Market, Hat Yai, Thailand - a popular touristy place for Malaysian visitors / shoppers!
19) Our group's dinner at a street food stall besides the Lee Garden Plaza & Hotel, Hat Yai, Thailand - plenty of street food for you to savour & enjoy eating!
