Saturday Nov 26 2022 - My 2nd day in Bangkok & today is a weekend, so our group kickstart the day with a visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market, followed by a visit to Hua Lamphong Railway Station, a walking tour in Bangkok Chinatown & an evening shuttle boat ride to Asiatique Riverfront. Total BTS & MRT tickets cost incurred for the day = 186bht (Rm24) per pax.
1) Enjoying my 1st hotel buffet breakfast in Bangkok City Hotel together with my wife & travel buddies (Thompson & wife), prior to our visit to Chatuchak Weekend Market! Enough calories generated from this morning breakfast to fuel our energy for the rest of day!
2) Taking a BTS skytrain (40bht = Rm5.20) from Petchthewi BTS station > Mochit for our group visit to the popular Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok.
3) Just shop & eat, plenty of action in Chatuchak Weekend Market, Bangkok - Welcome to Chatuchak Weekend Market, the most popular weekend market in Bangkok! You can spend the whole day here & fill up your shopping bags full of goodies sold in this marketplace, price is reasonably cheap but learn to haggle too to get the best of your best price!
4) MRT train ride from Kamphaeng Phet > Hua Lamphong Railway Station, more action on the way!
5) Hua Lamphong Railway Station, Bangkok - my travel buddies & my wife's first visit to this century old Hua Lamphong Railway Station (but a familiar place for me as I had in numerous occasions used this train station for my various train rides to Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai & Nong Khai), the main purpose for this visit was to buy our return sleeper train tickets (upper bed 1005bht = Rm130, lower 1105bht = Rm144) from Hua Lamphong (ETD14.30) > Hat Yai (ETA07.30). After 15 minutes of queuing & presenting our passports to the Ticketing Counter, we finally got our train tickets!
6) Walkabout from Hua Lamphing Railway Station > Chinatown, Yaowarat Road, Bangkok - so just walk & walk & get a feel of this historic Chinatown in Bangkok ..... Chinese temples, old shophouses, street food, crowded during the late afternoon till evening & night especially during the weekend, heavy traffic along the Yaowarat road ...
7) Eating time! Our group's lunch at a pork noodle stall in Chinatown, Bangkok; observed that this stall had a number of customers queuing up to order the food, so our group decided to try out the pork noodle here .... so please be seated & wait for your turn to be served!
8) continuing our walking tour in Bangkok Chinatown after the pork noodle lunch
9) Another round of eating - this time is char siew wan tan noodle I shared with my wife!
10) Our group's third round of walking in Bangkok Chinatown, no dull moments here!
10) Bought home 360bht (Rm46.80) worth of raw cashew nuts from a Thai Teow Chew owner of this shop!
11) Our final lap of walking tour; guided by mobile phone GPS, our group was able to navigate & walk out of the back alleys in Bangkok Chinatown towards the main road leading to the Wat Mangkon MRT station for our return train ride to our hotel with considerable ease!
12) Wat Mangkon MRT station - located close to Bangkok Chinatown.
