D-4 Wednesday Aug 12 2026 (Urumqi & Fuyun, Xinjiang) - my 1st day in Fuyun, took a high speed train departing 08.12 from Urumqi Railway Station > Fuyun Railway Station (approx 473km, 5.5hr), my 1st visit to Fuyun & for today after our arrival & hotel check-in, we visited the Fuyun Museum, Fuyun Riverside Scenic Spot & Walking Street & a glimpse of the nightlife in this fascinating county town in northern Xinjiang, my first stopover for a 2 nights stay after Urumqi, Xinjiang.
Public Transport: 1 train ride (CNY72 = Rm43, Urumqi > Fuyun), 1 taxi ride (CNY25)

1) High speed train ride (CNY72 = Rm43) departing 08.12 from Urumqi Railway Station > arriving 13.52 in Fuyun Railway Station (approx 473km, 5.5hr)
2) Desert landscape along the train route from Urumqi > Fuyun.
3) Arriving in Fuyun Railway Station.
4) Upon arrival in Fuyun Railway Station, we bought from the Ticketing Counter 2 train tickets covering Fuhai > Kelamayi (CNY44) & Kelamayi > Kuitun (CNY30).
5) Taxi ride (CNY25) from Fuyun Railway Station > Yi Jia Hotel. (approx 9km)
6) Hotel Accommodation (Fuyun): my 2 nights stay in Yi Jia Hotel, room tariff Rm83 (US$21), 2 single beds
7) Fuyun Passenger Transport Centre - located opposite Yi Jia Hotel - easy for both of us to board a MPV van from Fuyun > Bietun, our next destination.
8) Walkabout in downtown Fuyun after the hotel check-in.
9) Fuyun County Museum, Xinjiang - a comprehensive cultural institution dedicated to preserving the rich frontier history, nomadic traditions & unique geology of the northern Altai region, originally a Qing Dynasty military garrison located approx 850m from our hotel.
10) Continued our walkabout from Fuyun Museum to Riverside Scenic Spot.
11) Riverside Scenic Spot, Fuyun County, Xinjiang - a vibrant 5km "Green Corridor" stretching along the banks of the Irtysh River, the park features extensively well maintained wooden broadwalks & cycling paths, popular for evening strolls & line dancing.
12) Cultural Sculpture Square - located within the scenic area, the square holds the towering "Soul of Fuyun" & " Galloping Horses " sculpture representing the local nomadic culture & historical mining feats of the Altay region.
13) Irtysh River landmark & riverbanks - the Irtysh is a river in Russia, China & Kazakhstan, it the chief tributary of the Ob & is also the longest tributary in the world, the river's source lies in the Mongolian Altai in Dzungaria close to the border with Mongolia, the Irtysh's main tributaries include the Toboi, Demyanka & the Ishim, it is also the only river which flows into Artic Ocean in China.

14) Evening walk in downtown Fuyun to hotel.
15) Bought fresh tomatoes (CNY5) & apples (CNY4) from a roadside vendor, so we had a dish of DIY dessert marinated with sesame sauce to savour in our hotel.
16) I love morning & evening walk - downtown Fuyun near the market place & walking street impressed me a lot, I enjoy walking & doing this form of exercise whenever I arrive in a new town or place to get a feel of the daily life of the locals !
17) Fuyun County Walking Street / Night Market - serves authentic street food, sizzling grilled lamb skewers, traditional hand-pulled rice with tender lamb, palace recipe beef pies, crispy grilled buns & rich handmade local yogurt.
18) Fuyun County by Night - a starry starry night in Fuyun, attractive night scene & experiences especially near the night market ! When nightfall around 21.30 (a longer daylight in Xinjiang), downtown Fuyun comes alive & you will love Fuyun & seeing some of the iconic buildings lighted up & turned colourful & in limelight ! Gooood Night !
