Confidence Day 6 itinerary quotes " Yellow River Grand Canyon + Laoniuwan Tourist Area / Divine Ox Square. Yellow River Grand Canyon - the area is renowned for the stunning scenery of the Yellow Rive Canyon & includes historical & scenic sites such as "Yama's Nose", "Sacrifice Cliff" & "Echo Tower". Due to rainy & misty weather in the morning, this itinerary was swapped with Day 8 itinerary !
Confidence Day 8 itinerary quotes " Hasuhai / Saihantala Park / Baotou Golden Street. Hasuhai is one of China's largest alpine lakes. The lake is oval shaped with crystal-clear water, surrounded by majestic mountains (this visit was changed to Day 9)
Day 6 Tuesday Sept 3 2024 - the 3 touristy places our group visited today were 1) Saihantala Urban Prairie, Baotou, 2) Baotou Golden Street & 3) Dazhao Historical & Cultural Tourist Area / Ancient Style Saishang Street, Hohhot (not in Confidence itinerary, an add-on item by our local China tour guide)
Travel itinerary: Ordos City > Baotou > Hohhot, Inner Mongolia (approx 326km)
1) Hotel buffet breakfast (No 5), Ordos, Inner Mongolia
2) A brief stopover for a toilet run in Mongol-Tibetan Medicine Culture Centre, off the Ordos / Baotou Expressway (external visit only)
3) Countryside scenery along the Ordos / Baotou Expressway & a glimpse of Yellow River from the tour bus's windows !
4) Saihantala Urban Prairie, Baotou, Inner Mongolia - Saihantala means "Beautiful Grassland" in Mongolian. The Saihatala Urban Prairie Grassland in Baotou City is the only urban grassland in China & even in Asia, and the primitive grassland wetland ecosystem in Baotou City. With nearly 10,000mu of natural vegetation, it is a unique name card of Baotou City to show its urban features & grassland culture. It has been listed as a landmark cultural people-benefit project in Baotou, an important grassland cultural tourism project that insists on planning & continuous construction for decades and it is an extremely precious natural ecological resource preserved for Baotou people under careful protection of the People's Government of Baotou City. It is a veritable large urban grassland with 56 kinds of vegetation, 23 kinds of tress & shrubs, and more than 30 kinds of wild animals such as pheasants, rabbits & ducks. My wife & myself took a leisure stroll of the Park (approx 3.5km), the total walking trail is approx 11km.

7) Baotou Golden Street, Inner Mongolia - Baotou in Mongolian means "Place that has deer" or "Deer City", famous for its steel & iron industry, golden street, historic tea street, Tea Road culture, Chinese opera & Qing dynasty architecture.
8) Miaofa Temple, Baotou, Inner Mongolia - built in 1853, the largest Han Chinese Buddhist monastery temple in the region.
9) Christian Church, Baotou, Inner Mongolia
10) Fresh Ice Cream @Rmb2 - light refreshment of the day !
11) Mongolia woolen shawl worn by one of our lady tour members in the bus, a promotional offer by our tour guide !
12) Suburban & countryside scenery & a brief stopover in a Public Toilet Service Centre (Hasuhai) along the Baotou / Hohhot Expressway
13) Dazhao Historical & Cultural Tourist Area, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia - located in the city centre, a major tourist attraction, nearby is Dazhao Temple & Ximengzho & the Saishang Old Street & Jiujiu Street, allotted 2.5 hrs by our tour leader to roam the surrounding area & for food (DIY, dinner not included for this Hohhot evening visit !). Dazhao Temple was closed at the time of our group's visit (05.00 > 07.30), my last visit to Dazhao Temple was in 2011 !
14) Ancient style Saishang Street, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia - old shops built during the early Qing dynasty !
15) Dinner with my wife in a local family owned noodle restaurant, adjacent to the Dazhao Temple; 7 of our tour members were also eating in this restaurant. KM's delight - a bowl of beef noodle soup @ Rmb18 = US$4 & my wife's delight - pork spare rib noodle soup @ Rmb18 !
16) Dazhao Temple, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia - external visit only, inside temple (a famous Tibetan Buddhist monastery) had closed at the time of our group's visit ! My last visit to Dazhao Temple was in 2011 !
17) Dazhao Historical & Cultural Tourist Area by night - a popular tourist attraction !
18) Our tour group's 2 night's hotel accommodation in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia.
19) Bought 2 packs of Chinese coughing medicine (Rmb54 = Rm34) from a local pharmacy near our hotel, having bad coughing last few nights while sleeping but feeling much better after the Chinese medication !
