" This is a New Year. A new beginning. And things will change "
The beginning of 15 days Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations (Jan 29 > Feb 12 2025), Jan 29 & 30 (1st & 2nd Day of CNY) were declared a national public holiday in my home country, Malaysia & Feb 1 (4th Day of CNY) too was a public holiday which was a Federal Territory Day for Kuala Lumpur City. A real summer holiday for most Malaysians during this long CNY weekend making an exodus (jamming the North-South Expressway in Peninsula Malaysia) from the cities back to their hometowns or outstation touristy places to dine & unwind with their families & loved ones echoing this popular western song by John Denver "Country roads take me home to the place I belong" !
The sound of fire crackers driving away evil spirits & welcoming the Snake Year of 2025, the roaring sound of lively Lion Dance performances, (playing drums & cymbals believing that loud noises chasing away bad spirits) in major shopping malls, corporate / commercial premises & neighbourhood residences, giving out of red packets "Ang Pow" (a symbol of good fortune & well wishes) during CNY by elders & married couples to younger & unmarried persons, an opportune time to taste the various Chinese New Year goodies ie yee sang (prosperity toss fish salad), nian gao (sticky cakes), tang yuan (glutinous balls), bak kwa (dried sweet meat), mandarin oranges (lokam), ngaku (arrowhead), wax duck (preserved duck meat); I feel, I see, I hear & I taste most of them all in my Little LIFE pleasure outings & eating during the Chinese Lunar New Year ! I like to take this opportunity once again to wish all my readers a Happy Happy Chinese New Year, may you all bless with good health, joy, happiness & prosperity throughout the Snake Year of 2025 ! For travellers, may your 2025 be filled with adventures that create lasting memories !
These colorful & meaningful pictures "standing tall" in the Lumbini Garden of Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple in Jenjarom, Selangor said it all - perhaps it was a good time for you to use your six sense to immerse yourself especially for Malaysian Chinese & worldwide in some of these traditional activities during this Chinese Lunar New Year ! For travellers, use your senses to explore the world around you, learn about it & stay safe !
