Tin Dredge No 5, Tanjung Tualang, Perak |
Day 1 Thursday Sept 28 2023 - started an early drive from Subang Jaya (my home place), Selangor to George Town, Penang via a combination of North-South Expressway & main trunk roads along the north west coast of Peninsular Malaysia (approx 388km one way). Our group made a stopover in PrawnVillage & Tin Dredge No 5, both these tourist sites are located in Tanjung Tualang, Perak (approx 40km, south of Ipoh city)

Tanjung Tualang, Perak - an ex-mining town, known for its ulang galah or large fresh water prawns, a side strip to Tanjung Tualang to visit PrawnVillage & Tin Dredge No 5, the last tin dredge in Malaysia now on exhibit to general public !
1) KG Udang (MyPrawn Village), Kampung Ayer Papan,Tanjung Tualang, Perak + our group's 1st stopover in this ex-tin mining town.
2) Tin Dredge No 5, Tanjung Tualang, Perak - built in England in 1938, upgraded in 1963 & continued its operation until 1982, entrance fee Rm8 (external) + Rm5 for a guided tour to the interior.
George Town, Penang - the capital of Penang, Malaysia's 5th largest city, once an important Straits of Malacca trading hub, both George Town & Malacca have been gazetted as UNESCO World Heritage sites, both cities have colonial style buildings & shophouses, forts & old religious worship places etc
1) Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (2nd Penang Bridge), Bayan Lepas, Penang - taking a slow drive to George Town via the 2nd Penang Bridge (toll fee Rm6) from mainland Peninsula Malaysia.
2) Snake Temple, Bayan Lepas, Penang - a Chinese temple built in 1805 for Master Qingshui, a deified Buddhist monk.
3) Hotel accommodation: my 2 nights stay in Georgetown Hotel, Penang; room tariff Rm91 = US$19.40 (queen bed, twin sharing).
4) Batu Ferringhi Beach, George Town, Penang - a prime beach destination in Penang, located 11km northwest of the city centre.
5) Teluk Bahang Jetty, Tanjung Bungah, Penang - a fishermen jetty jutting out of Teluk Bahang on the north west coast of Penang.
6) Our group's noodle lunch in a restaurant opposite the Snake Temple, Bayan Lepas, Penang

7) Our group's dinner dinner in Kimberly Food Night Market - favourably known & frequented by locals & foreign tourists, a good selection of Penang hawker style food for you to savour !

7) Jetty Food Court, George Town, Penang - after the dinner, our group drove to Chew Jetty area taking an evening stroll to get a feel of the surrounding environment.
8) Chew Jetty, George Town, Penang - wooden stilt houses built around a walkway in a waterside village dating from the 19th century
