Day 3 Saturday Oct 1 2023 - started an early morning drive from our hotel to Penang Bridge for an overland crossing to Butterworth taking the coastal / main trunk roads to Alor Setar (total distance approx 130km), my last visit to Alor Setar, Kedah was in Sept 2022; as for my wife & other siblings, their last visit was decades ago hence a great opportunity for them to re-visit the various touristy places including new places in this northern city of Peninsula Malaysia ! So my role as a navigator & "tour guide" come into play !

Overland crossing from George Town to Butterworth via Penang Bridge - a pleasant morning drive (but weather was hazy) passing through the Penang Bridge to Alor Setar (via Permatang Pauh, Kepala Batas & Simpang Empat) for an overnight stay. 

Alor Setar, Kedah - the state capital of Kedah, 2nd largest city in the state after Sungei Patani, one of the most important cities on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, home to the 3rd tallest telecommunication tower in Malaysia ie The Alor Setar Tower.  

1) Paddy Museum, Alor Setar, Kedah - our 1st stopover, closed to public admission, under renovation from now till Nov 30 2023 ! My last visit was in Sept 2022 ! So near yet so far ! 

2) Gunung Keriang, Kedah - located 8km from Alor Setar town.

11) Kompleks Rumah Kelahiran Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad - the birthplace of  the 4th & 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia.
