Day 2 Friday Oct 1 2023 (Part 2) - after the Ayer Itam, Kek Lok Si Temple & Balik Pulau visits, our group spent the rest of the afternoon visiting various UNESCO World Heritage sites & touristy places in downtown George Town area. As for me, it was a down the memory lane visit having visited Penang 2 to 3 times in recent years !
1) Esplanade, George Town, Penang - the waterfront Esplanade features historical landmarks such as the Cenotaph war memorial, Fort Cornwallis, scenic promenades & access to several museums of art & culture, architectural gems include Penang City Hall which combines Edwardian Baroque & Palladian styles, cafes, restaurants & bars & a handful of hotels , the ferry port offers trips to Butterworth & Langkawi island.
4) Chaiya Mangalaram Thai Buddhist Temple, Lorong Burma, Pulau Tikus, George Town, Penang - this Thai style Buddhist shrine is home to a huge reclining Buddha, mosaic dragons & other statutes.
5) Yap Temple (Choo Chay Keong), corner of Lebuh Cannon & Lebuh Armenian, George Town, Penang - built in 1924 and dedicated to the God of Prosperity, a clan temple of the Lum Yeong Tong Yap Kongsi
