Malaysia (Covid-19 National Recovery Phase 3 - My Staycation No 7 to Saloma Bridge, Kampung Baru, Petronas Twin Towers & KL Tower, Kuala Lumpur) Oct 10 2021

" My Staycation & Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) free & easy visit with my travel buddies, KF Wong & Thompson Tham to Saloma Link Bridge, Kampung Baru, Petronas Twin Towers, Suria KLCC, KL Tower, Chinatown & Kwai Chai Hong, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday Oct 10 2021 (07.30>15.30) travelling by Rapid KL LRT & MRT trains from SS15, Subang Jaya > KL Sentral (transit) > Kampung Baru & return; my 7th outdoor trip after a National Lockdown (Movement Control Order / Emergency) imposed by the Malaysian Government on May 6 2021 due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, a National Vaccination campaign is currently being implemented by the Malaysian Government (Phase 1 started in Feb 2021); Selangor (my home state) is now under the National Recovery Phase 3 (NRP3) starting Friday, Oct 1 2021 which permits individuals with vaccination certificate or card for cross district travels, dine-in restaurants, hotel accommodation & homestay, outdoor sport & activities within the same state, inter state travel has yet to be lifted " 

Total expenses incurred: Rm3.80 (2 train rides, seniors 50% discount) + Rm18 (Food) = Rm21.80 (US$5.13); distance from Subang Jaya (my home place) > Kampung Baru is approx 26km 


My travel buddies, KF Wong & Thompson Tham, my group's 4th outdoor visit (Staycation) to Klang Valley since the lifting of the inter-district ban on  Sept 10 2021 - Together Memories ! 


Travel itinerary: SS15, Subang Jaya > Kampung Baru > Petronas Twin Towers / Suria KLCC > Menara KL Tower > Petaling Street (Chinatown) > Kwai Chai Hong (Little Devil Lane) > Pasar Seni > Subang Jaya (approx 5 hours of Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) in Kuala Lumpur City Center (09.00 > 14.00)

The start of my Rapid KL LRT train ride (Rm1.90=US$0.45, 16 stops) from SS15, Subang Jaya > Kampung Baru LRT station (07.40)

1) Kampung Baru - a traditional village in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Center & nearby Chow Kit wet market, here you can still find the traditional Malay wooden stilt houses, flanked by coconut palms & banana trees, stalls selling street food ie nasi lemak, banana fritters, satay, fried chicken etc, residents here still able to enjoy a carefree & slow pace of village lifestyle like their rural counterparts in the countryside & small towns ! My last visit to Kampung Baru was in Feb 2020. 


2) The Old Kampung Baru VS The New Modern Skyscrapers / High Rise Buildings of Kuala Lumpur City Center, Kampung Baru (Village), a hidden gem amid a modern & progressive Kuala Lumpur City Center ! 



3) Pintasan Saloma (Saloma Link)  - named after Salmah Ismail or Saloma, a famous Singaporean-Malaysian singer & film actress who became well known in the 1950s & 1960s, a 50 metres combined pedestrian & bicyclist bridge across the Klang River in Kuala Lumpur, linking Kampung Baru & Kuala Lumpur City Center, a new tourist attraction & Instagram spot, this single span steel structure bridge comes every evening is illuminated with 4,100 diamond facade panels that come with LED lighting - my 4th visit to Saloma Link since the opening in Feb 2020 ! 


4) Petronas Twin Towers - an iconic landmark in Kuala Lumpur, these twin skyscrapers were completed in March 1996, ranked as the tallest buildings in the world from 1998 to 2004, I paid an entrance fee of Rm14 (Malaysian seniors, 50% discount) covering entries to Sky Bridge (10 minutes) & Observation Deck (86th floor) in my last visit to the Petronas Twin Towers in Oct 2018 ! The panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur cityscape from 86th floor Observation Deck was simply stunning & magnificent !


5) Suria KLCC Shopping Center, Kuala Lumpur City Center - a 6 storey premier shopping mall with over 300 flagship stores located at the foot of the Petronas Twin Towers

7) Malaysia's Wildlife Animal Wall Murals, Petronas Twin Towers, Kuala Lumpur City Center - featuring images of 12 animals unique to Malaysia ie Malayan Tiger, Pygmy Elephant, Malayan Tapir, Lesser Mouse-Deer, Proboscis Monkey & Malayan Peacock-Pheasant 


8) Public Bank HQ Building, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur

10) Menara Kuala Lumpur (KL Tower) - a communications tower located in Kuala Lumpur, completed in March 1995, it features an antenna that increases its height to 421 metres & is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world, the roof of the pod is at 335 metres; entrance fee for seniors is Rm62 for entries to Sky Deck, Sky Box & Observation Deck, my last visit to the Sky & Observation Deck to have a panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur city was in Sept 2018 


11) Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur 


12) Kuala Lumpur Upside Down House, Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur - one of the latest attractions at KL Tower, built with the concept of "Cottage House" with an antique "Morris 1974" hung upside down at the entrance, provides a new experience, but all the furniture in the house are upside down !

13) KL Forest Eco Park, Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur - situated within the city, this rain forest has several nature trails & a forest canopy walkway; my last visit to this park was in April 2021 - not long ago ! The Park was closed due to renovation in progress ! 


14) Presbyterian St Andrew Church (1918), Persiaran Raja Chulan, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur  

15) Telekom Museum, Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur 


16) Lat, The Kampung Boy, cartoon series of sculptures in Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur City Center


17) Bursa Malaysia - the Stock Exchange of Malaysia, previously known as Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange, provides a full integration of transactions, offering a wide range of currency exchange & related services including trading, settlement, clearing & saving services 


18) Menara Maybank HQ, Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur


19) Petaling Street & Chinatown (Jalan Tun H S Lee & Jalan Sultan) area, Kuala Lumpur City Center - bustling shopping district with haggling vendors offering a range of goods from clothing to food, more visitors were seen in this Sunday weekend compared with the earlier week I visited !


20) Guan Di Chinese Temple, Jalan Tun H S Lee, Kuala Lumpur - founded in 1887, it is one of the oldest temples in Malaysia 


21) Kwai Chai Hong (Little Devil Lane), Kuala Lumpur - the latest toursit attraction at the Chinatown of Kuala Lumpur, a small alley behind Petaling Street with numerous murals depicting the daily life at this place in the olden days, the lane has been here for a century old, it was in a dilapidated state for many years & recently refurbished to give the place more lively & vibrant ! 


22) Our group's lunch in Hon Kee (chee cheong fun - rice noodle roll Rm5=US$1.17), Petaling Street & Lai Foong Restoran (beef noodle Rm13=US$3.05 & fried mi hoon Rm10=US$2.35), Jalan Tun H S Lee, Kuala Lumpur - both are my favourite food for breakfast or lunch ! 

Malaysia (my home country) - All set for interstate travel, getting ready to hit the highway, 88.8% of adult population in Malaysia vaccinated as of Wednesday Oct 6 2021 ! Once the 90% threshold is achieved, Malaysians are eagerly awaiting for the Government to announce the lifting of travel ban interstate & overseas ! Hopefully some good news come next week ! A New Normal LIFE ! Living with Covid-19 ! SOP ! 3rd Booster Shot ! Vaccination Certificate ! Face Mask & Physical / Social Distancing etc ! 


Saturday Oct 9 2022 (06.50) - pink sky in the morning, will it be a bad weather today ? Woke up early & walked to nearby SS15 Wet Market, Subang Jaya (10 minutes) to "tao bao (takeaway)" my favourite breakfast food ie steamed chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll) & assorted fried bean curd skin / sheet & vegetable rolls (15 assorted pieces Rm15.20=US$3.60) etc come with curry gravy & thick black bean sauce for my family members !  


Friday Oct 8 2021 - a partially cloudy day, drove my wife to SS14, Subang Jaya Morning Mini Market to buy meat, fresh produce & groceries & bumped into a Michelle Ng & Team (State Assembly Representative of Subang Jaya) distributing stalks of fresh flowers to local residents / shoppers, carrying a tag which reads " You don't start with courage & then face fear. You become courageous because you face your fear " in conjunction with the World Mental Health Day 2021 amid a Covid-19 pandemic ! Well said & thank you for this special "gift" from Michelle Ng & the hard working team ! A beautiful morning & a "flowerful" day !
