Day 3 Tuesday 30th July 2019 - Sungai Lembing, Pahang - Part 2
1) Due to a stomach upset during the middle of the night, I was not able to join my travel buddy, Lam for an early morning hike to view the sunrise / panorama of Sungai Lembing from a hilltop. Thanks to Lam for sharing with us the following scenic pictures taken at the hilltop !
2) Sungai Lembing Museum - entrance fee Rm$1 (Senior), a worthwhile & educational visit for tourists, learning the A to Z of the tin mining industry in Malaya / Malaysia, the start of the tin mining in Sungai Lembing in 1888 by the British, the establishment & history of Pahang Consolidated Company Ltd in 1906, the boom & gloom of the tin mining industry in Sungai Lembing (1888-1986), the stunning growth of tin mining industry from 1915 to 1926, the falling demand during the economic recession in 1930s, the Japanese occupation of Malaya from 1941-1945, the communist insurgency after the 2nd World War (1945), the political stability, social transformation & independence of Malaya in 31st August 1957, all these world events has one way or another affected the tin mining industry in the country, but it was the world economic recession in 1985 which led to the closure of the mine in Sungai Lembing in 1986 ! Sad to say, tin mining is now a "sunset" industry in Malaysia !
