" Season spinning round again, the years keep rolling by "
Forget about experiencing Spring, Autumn & Winter weather in my home country, Malaysia. It will never come! It's forever Summer & a wet monsoon season greeting you at the end of each year ! But Malaysia, being a multi-racial & multi-religious country, I must confess that Malaysians are a fortunate lot as they are able to celebrate & enjoy the 4 festive seasons every year (come rain or shine) ie Chinese New Year, Raya Aidifitri (Malay New Year), Deepavali (Festival of Lights) & Christmas followed by a feast of food with family members & friends at home or eating out & buying of goodies associated with the festive season !
2022 (still not a Covid-19 free year) had ended like a blink of an eye. In the blink of an eye, everything can change! Just like the beautiful festive decor in Pavilion KL (a premier shopping mall in Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur). A new festive mood & feeling emerged whenever a new festive season arrives & this motivated me to show up myself at the front entrance of Pavilion KL Mall! For every festive season throughout the 2022, I was fortunate to have taken a few pictures of Pavilion KL (with face mask on) during the Chinese New Year, Malay New Year (Raya Aidilfitri), Deepavali (Festival of Lights) & Christmas like the look of "pretty maids" in a row - very refreshing & pleasing to look at!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic & high fuel cost, my travelling life was somewhat affected by this double whammy during the last 3 years! Committing or planning a free & easy overseas trip to Western or Asian countries is hard to come by & full of plenty challenges (high air ticket prices, flight cancellations & delays, stringent Covid-19 health checks & protocols, closing of air & land border crossings, sudden flare up of political & social unrest in a particular country etc). So it was no "fun" at all even though you are ready to put a travel plan into actions but the prevailing circumstances & uncertainties make decision making in travelling somewhat difficult!
But LIFE goes on! So I make some adjustments in my travelling LIFE during the last 3 years (2010 - 2022). Like what I had done in my travelling in 2020 & 2021 focusing mainly on Staycations & Cuti Cuti Malaysia in my home country whenever there was a window of opportunity to travel amidst the Covid-19 outbreak or learning to live with the virus. In 2022, I managed to plan my travelling life modelling like a "Western Food" style set menu ie enjoying an "Appetizer or Starter" first (ie mainly doing the Cuti Cuti Malaysia short overnight outstation trips in my home country), skipped or cherry picked the "Main Course" ie forget about India & China but I picked on visiting 2 neighbouring countries first ie Singapore & Thailand before 2022 fades away. Last but not the least, enjoy eating more "Desserts" (LIFE is short & unpredictable, eat the desserts first) ie numerous Staycations in Kuala Lumpur & re-visiting or 1st timer visits to suburban & country towns in nearby states of Peninsula Malaysia, so as to make my travelling year in 2022 at best a wholesome one like what I had done in the past prior to the Covid-19 years!
Looking back at these pictures I had posted in my travel blog, these pictures were not a "Fistful of Dollars " but a "Fistful of Sweet Memories" achieved during this difficult period! A big thank your to my family members (my wife, brother & sisters) & my Kuala Lumpur travel buddies who had walked the paths with me to a number of touristy places during the difficult Covid-19 years of 2020 to 2022!
As for the year of 2023, the best is yet to come ! Malaysians will be celebrating the Chinese New Year (falls on Jan 22 2023). So KM, hold your spirit high & for this coming Chinese Lunar Rabbit year of 2023, I hope you could still able to maintain your mental & physical strength & end the year as a happy & hoppy "Rabbit" traveller once again!
Travel Highlights in my year of travelling in 2022 (Jan > Dec) - saying bye bye to the Year of Tiger & welcoming a Bunny year hoping that avid travellers will once again able to hop from one country to another in 2023! 2022 was indeed not an "April Fool" but a "Fruitful" year for me that in each of the month in 2022, there were some travelling activities I could indulge in, be it Cuti Cuti Malaysia, staycations or overseas travelling! Here are my travel trophies in 2022 (Jan -Dec):
1) 5 "Appetiser" Cuti Cuti Malaysia overnight visits to touristy places in the states of Penang, Pahang, Perak, Johor, Perlis & Kedah.
2) 2 "Main Course" visits to neighbouring countries in Singapore & Thailand.
3) 34 "Dessert" Staycation visits to touristy places in Kuala Lumpur, states of Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak & Melaka.
4) 18 "First Timer" visits to country towns of Machap Baru, Pekan, Kuala Rompin, Endau, Pulai Tioman, Parit Buntar, Kuala Kurau, Bagan Datuk, Pantai Remis, Bagan Serai, Sungei Patani, Bukit Mertajam, Seberang Perai, Kangar, Alor Setar, Kuala Perlis, Rasa & Chemor
In 2021 despite rising Covid-19 infections & movement restrictions / lockdowns imposed by Malaysian Government, I was able to do 1 "Appetiser" Cuti Cuti Malaysia overnight visit to my home state of Johor (3 days 2 nights) & 40 "Dessert" Staycations mainly by MRT/LRT/Self Drive to major touristy places in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor & Negri Sembilan.
The same applied to 2020 due to lockdowns & movement restrictions, I managed to make 1 Cuti Cuti Malaysia overnight visit to Cameron Highlands (3 days) badly in need to inhale some fresh air & 42 "Dessert" Staycations in Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Perak & Pahang ! Although I was "quarantined" at home most of the weeks after March 2020 but I was able find some windows of opportunity to visit touristy places & seeing local people moving on with their life in a different "light" realising that a lot of public places were devoid of people & visitors due to the Covid-19 pandemic & fear! Most businesses especially F & B were at a standstill during this period of time!
