"Once a year, go someplace you've never been before"
1) Victoria Bridge, Kampung Kapor, Enggor, Perak - located approx 9km from Kuala Kangsar town, one of the oldest railway bridges (120 years) in Malaysia, named after Queen Victoria to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee Year, constructed by British engineers & completed in March 1900, this 350 meter long & 12 meter high old bridge was officially opened by the Sultan of Perak & Sir Frank Swettenham, a British Colonial Administrator who became the First Resident General of the Federated Malay States, the old bridge is closed to rail traffic but an adjoining footbridge is still publicly open to motorcycles & pedestrians
My Good Old Days - visiting the Victoria Bridge in Perak reminded me (together with 3 of my Klang buddies) of my visit to Bridge on the River Kwai in Kanchanaburi, Thailand in Jan 2016. An exciting non-airconditioned slow train ride from Thonburi train station, near Bangkok to River Kwai Bridge train station.
During the World War 2, the Japanese used allied prisoners of war to build a railway from Thailand to Burma - the railway was completed in Oct 1943, over 12,000 allied prisoners died in its construction hence this railway line is known as "Death Railway" ...
2) Karai village town, near the Victoria Bridge, Enggor & morning market every Tuesday week - bought 5 sweetcorn for Rm5 & 4 stalks of petai (bitter bean) for Rm5
