Kuala Selangor is a coastal town in the west coast of Peninsula Malaysia. The name Kuala Selangor means Estuary of Selangor River. Bukit Melawati was the stronghold of Selangor Sultanate during the late 18th & early 19th century. A heavily fortified fort once stood on the summit, built by Sultan Ibrahim from 1782-1826 to fight against the Dutch. The fort fell to the Dutch in 1784. Sultan Ibrahim recaptured the fort in January 1785 with the aid of warriors from Pahang and mercenaries from Permatang.
The Bukit Melawati Historical Complex has a museum exhibiting a number of relics of the past, a lighthouse, royal graves, seven wells, poisonous well, several canons pointing at the mouth of the Selangor River. Kota Melawati is now designated as a historical monument & historical site by the Selangor government.
Kuala Selangor has a number of seafood restaurants frequented by urbanites from Kuala Lumpur & Klang Valley especially during the weekends & festive holidays !
Holiday makers can book a Sky Mirror adventure basic package tour from local travel agencies or online, the cost is about Rm80 (3hrs) ! For the firefly tour at night the cost is RM25.
