" My day trip (Makan Makan) to a Durian Farm Investment, Educational & Cultural & Tasting tour program in Karak, Pahang (09.30-12.30pm - Saturday 6th July 2019) with my wife & elder son & brother-in-law's family members "
My brother-in-law has an investment interest in a recently launched durian farm project in Karak, Pahang. So for this Saturday weekend, 10 of my brother-in-law's relatives including 3 of my family members (my wife & elder son) were given complementary durian farm tour passes by the developer to attend a durian day tour program entitled "Embrace with trust sharing with bloom" along with 30-40 other invited guests organized by Eco Starland Group. This was my first durian farm visit & I really enjoyed the visit and the ensuing durian tasting arranged by the developer !
Durian is the fruit of several tree species belonging to the genus Durio. There are 30 recognized Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit, with over 300 named varieties in Indonesia, 100 in Thailand & 100 in Malaysia !
Durian is the King of fruit (a warming or heaty fruit) in Malaysia. Mangosteen is the Queen (a cooling fruit) ! Durian has a pungent smell, you either love it or you hate it ! No wonder hotels prohibit the eating of durians in rooms & inside the hotel complex !
Malaysia is now a major exporter of durians to China. The fruit is expensive to eat but favored by young & old in Malaysia & neighboring countries in Asia ! In the olden days during my teenage years in the 1960's, local rural & urban folks even resorted to pawning their "sarong or pajamas" to buy durians ! A new variety called Musang King is now the favorite durian sought after in the domestic & export markets. For this year season, Musang King durian is selling at around RM40 per kilo - so very pricey compared with other tropical & imported temperate fruit sold in the market place ! Other popular varieties on sales here are D-24, Red Prawn, XO & the newer varieties recently registered are D-200 & Black Thorn !

8) Make a wild guess the estimated weight of these 2 durians as placed on this weighing scale ? The answer is slightly over 2 kilos !
8) Free buffet lunch for invited guests who attended the durian fruit farm visit hosted by Eco Starland Group
9) Free durian tastings for invited guests (40-50 people) - 2 big baskets of various species of local durians including Musang King durians ! So our group had a jolly good time (1 hr) eating a selection of best quality local durians - as for me I like the yellow creamy flesh, bittersweet, small seeds (never mind if big seeds but taste good) & smell good, of course ! If Musang King durian is too expensive, I do not mind eating D-24 or Red Prawn varieties. Of late, a durian stall in USJ 14 (near my home place) offers a new durian variety called Margarine Durians. This variety reported to have a milder taste & smell, the flesh is just as creamy & bittersweet but not as filling but come with big seeds !
