USA & Canada (East Coast) May/June 2019 D-4 Philadelphia, USA



Day 4 Friday 17th May 2019 Philadelphia, USA

1) Greyhound Bus from Downtown Brooklyn > Port Authority, New York > Philadelphia, USA (09.10>14.00 - US$17.70) - our Greyhound bus only arrived after a long 3 hours anxious waiting at the Downtown Brooklyn Greyhound bus station so our group missed the 12pm bus departure from Port Authority Bus Terminal to Philadelphia. But we were fortuntae to board the 1pm bus so a slight delay in our arrival in Philadephia !

After my hostel check-in, I took a leisure evening walk to downtown Philadelphia despite a gloomy weather and a drizzle, I took the opportunity of exploring the historical district of  Philadelphia ….. my 3 hours of walkabout in downtown Philadelphia had given me a good glimpse of this historic city. 

1) National Museum of American Jewish History


2) Philadelphia Bourse - a Commodities Exchange founded in 1891 by George E Bartol, a grain & commodities exporter . 


3) A food & shopping mall in downtown Philadelphia



4) The Philadelphia Bank Building (1857), Chestnut Street, Philadelphia


5) Second Bank of the United States, Philadelphia (1816-1836)


6) The Signer commemorates the spirit and deeds of all who devoted their lives to the cause of American freedom. 


7) Library of the American Philosophical Society (1743) & Thomas Jefferson Garden (1959), Philadelphia



8) Robert Morris (1734-1806) Statute, Philadelphia - Finnacier of the Revolution 

9) Insurance Company of North America (1792) - first US firm to write marine insurance & insure a building's contents from the fire 


10) A downtown Garden with a historic interest


11) Robert Aitken (1734-1802) Statute - an influential revolutionary-era printer who operated a shop on this block. 


12) Independence Hall, Philadelphia - the building where both the United States Declaration of Independence & the United States Constitution were debated & adopted. It is now the centerpiece of the Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania


13) Liberty Bell, Philadelphia - an iconic symbol of American independence located in the Liberty Bell Center in Independence Historical Park


14) Liberty Bell & Visitor Center 


15) Historical Buildings, statues in downtown Philadelphia
