2022 - A Year of Roaring Tiger ? |
Day 3 Chinese New Year (Thursday Feb 3 2022) - Travel Highlights:
Machap Baru, Melaka - my 1st visit to this quaint little Hakka village town (90% are Hakka descendants) in Alor Gajah district, Melaka, located approx 130km from south of Kuala Lumpur or 30km from Melaka city, here you could enjoy an evening or nightlife in Machap Street Walk / Pasar Malam (Night Market Friday > Sunday) to savour the local food eg lei cha (thunder tea rice), bitter gourd noodle soup, laksa, pork burger, dim sum, crunchy bread pieces etc; another tourist attraction especially during the CNY festive season is the Machap Meihua Walk (Plum Blossom Street like a Little Beijing) in Lorong 2 (started 20 years ago by a local resident, Uncle Foo) with a row of houses (both sides) decorated with red lanterns, attractive displays of animal zodiac festive signs ideas (this year 2022 is Tiger) & the Lorong 2 (including a side alley) lined with artificially decorated Meihua plants (plum blossom which bloom most vibrantly even amidst the harsh winter snow), an Instagram spot especially during the evening of the Chinese New Year (Day 1 > 15) when the dazzling light is on ! Interesting to note that that there is another town with a similar name, Machap (known for its pottery wares manufacturing) which is located in southern Johor, approx 15km from Ayer Hitam, Johor, which I visited in Dec 2021 !
Machap, Melaka (Hakka Village Town) Near Alor Gajah (15km) & Melaka Town (30km) |
1) Meihua Walk, Machap Baru, Melaka - a warm welcome to visitors; quiet during my groups' morning visit (10.30), best time to visit is during the weekends & evening when the light is on !
2) My daughter-in-law's hometown is in Alor Gajah, Melaka (15km from Machap Baru) & on Day 2 evening of the Lunar New Year, both of them besides visiting her Alor Gajah home, also paid a visit to Meihua Walk, Machap Baru - here are some of the pictures taken in Meihua Walk by Night ! What a starry starry night stroll in this little village town during this Chinese New Year !
3) Taman Rekreasi Datuk Wira Poh Ah Tiam, Machap, Melaka - a small park located near the Machap Baru Chinese Primary school.
4) Machap Baru Chinese Primary School, Melaka
Tampin Town, Negri Sembilan - a down the memory lane visit, a town in Tampin District in Negri Sembilan, which borders Pulau Sebang town in Alor Gajah District, Melaka. 50 years ago while working in my 1st job (I was 21 years old then), an ex-colleague of mine gave me a lift in his car travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Tampin where I stayed overnight in his father's shophouse before heading home to attend a reunion Chinse New Year dinner in my hometown of Pontian, Johor ! Revisiting Tampin town in this visit gave me a fond memory - Tampin town looks more vibrant & progressive these days compared to the yesteryears !
1) Tampin Square, Jalan Besar, Tampin, Negri Sembilan - shopping mall district & the surrounding.
3) Chung Hua School, Jalan Besar, Tampin, Negri Sembilan
4) Main Street, Tampin, Negri Sembilan - both sides of the main street lined with pre-war shophouses ! I believe this could be one of the shophouses I had the opportunity to put up a night during my Good Old Days - 50 years ago !
5) Tampin Chinese Methodist Church, Jalan Padang, Tampin
6) Pasar Pulau Sebang, Negri Sembilan / Melaka state border
7) Tampin Xtreme Park, Negri Sembilan - located near Gunung Tampin, visitors could try rock & wall climbing, abseiling, flying fox & tree climbing ! 3.8km away is the Tampin Water Park.
As most of the Chinese eatery stalls in Machap Baru were not operating during the Day 3 of the Chinese New Year (my group was keen to savour the Hakka style food), we decided to head back to Taman Equine, Sri Kembangan, Selangor (my sister's home place) & had a noodle lunch in Soon Heng Restoran; a treat from my sister Mei (Rm45=US$10.60 for this group's noodle lunch consisting of 5 people)
Day 2 Chinese New Year (Wednesday Feb 2 2022) - CNY family bond lunch in my elder sister Inn, Peng & Mei's house in Taman Equine, Sri Kembangan, Selangor.
After the lunch & on our way home, my wife & myself made a brief visit to the Rainbow Bridge, Serdang Village, Sri Kembangan, Selangor.
Day 1 Chinese New Year (Tuesday Feb 1 2022) - CNY family bond lunch in my mother-in-law (89 years old)'s house in USJ 11, Subang Jaya, Selangor, attended by three generations of her family members ! There were fewer restrictions on Chinese New Year celebrations this year; last year, reunion dinners were allowed, but only limited for 15 family members living within a 10km radius & house visits were not allowed !
