My Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) & Makan Makan (Small Eat) on Fifth & final Day (Friday 14 2022) in George Town (UNESCO), Penang Island - after a breakfast (08.30>09.00) in Chow Rasta Hawker Food Market, our group had 3 hours of spare time & did a Jalan Jalan (Walkabout) from our hotel to nearby areas in Jalan Masjid Kapitan, Queen Street, Church Street, Little India & Jalan Farquhar area & visited the following touristy places:
1) Kong Hock Keong, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Penang - built in 1728, this Goddess of Mercy temple is the oldest Taoist temple in Penang.
2) Penang Chinese Town Hall, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Penang - established in 1881, Chung Keng Quee was the single largest individual donor towards the founding of the town hall & was a prominent president serving from 1881 to 1883.
3) Sri Mahamariamma Temple, Queen Street, Penang - built in 1833, oldest temple in Panang, featuring sculptures of gods & goddess over its main entrance & facade.
4) Pinang Peranakan Mansion, Church Street, Penang - a museum dedicated to Penang's Peranakan (Baba & Nyonya ie Chinese married the Malays dating back to 16th century) heritage, housed a distinctive green-hued mansion in Church Street, was once served as the residence & office of a 19th century Chinese tycoon, Chung Keng Quee, admission ticket Rm20 (US$4.70), opening hours 09.30 > 17.00.
5) Seh Tek Tong Cheah Kongsi, Lebuh Armenian, George Town, Penang - Cheah kongsi is the oldest of the 5 Five Big Clans of the Hokkien community in Penang, a 1810 temple built by an ancestral clan featuring ornate Chinese design with tours & events.
6) Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, Cannon Square, Penang - the finest Chinese clan temple outside China, founded in 1835 by 102 members of the Khoo clan gathered to form an association to look after the welfare of Khoo clansmen in the Nanyang, admission ticket Rm10 (US$ 2.35).
7) St George's Church - a 19th century church, the oldest purpose built Anglican church in Southeast Asia
8) Hutchings school, Lebuh Farquhar, Penang - founded by Rev Robert Sparke Hutchings (1782>1827), also the founder of Penang Free School & Raffles Institute in Singapore.
9) Church of the Assumption, Lebuh Farquhar, Penang - founded in 1786 when Captain Francis Light frist came to Penang, the church is the 3rd oldest Catholic Church in Malaysia
10) Penang High Court, Light Street, Penang - founded in 1808, the birthplace of Malaysia's judiciary system, housed inside a Palladian style building.
11) St Xavier Heritage Centre, Lebuh Farquhar, Penang - the new school hall at SXI has been named as "Karpal Singh Hall" in memory of the late "Tiger of Jelutong" Karpal Singh.
12) Central Fire Station (1908), Beach Street / Chulia Street Ghaut, Penang
13) Masjid Melayu (Jamek), Lebuh Acheh, Penang - a 19th century mosque built by the Achenese situated on Acheh Street, next to the mosque lay the cemetery of the mosque original benefactor, Tengku Syed Hussain Al-Aidid members of his family.
14) Little India, Penang Island - covering an area around Queen Street, Chulia Street & Market Street, an ethnic enclave, oldest temple Sri Mahamariamman Temple is located here, this area bears similarities to market streets in Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi.

16) Jalan Jalan (Walkabout 09.00>11.30) from Armenian Street Heritage Hotel to Chowrasta Market, Lebuh Carnavon, Little India, Lebuh Farquhar etc ....
Makan Makan (Small Eat) - group's breakfast in Chowrasta Hawker Food Market, Jalan Pinang, Penang - fried kwai teow + fried carrot cake + Apam balik (pancake) + drink = Rm46 (US$10.80)

At 12.30, our group checked out from Armenian Street Heritage Hotel & took a free Rapid Penang shuttle bus to a ferry terminal in Swettenham Pier for a ferry crossing (13.30) to Penang Sentral, Butterworth.

Boarding of KTM train departing 16.00 from Butterworth Train Station for our return journey (4 hours travelling time; 9 stopovers ie Butterworth > Bukit Mertajam > Taiping > Kuala Kangsar > Ipoh > Batu Gajah > Kampar > Kuala Lumpur > KL Sentral) & arriving in KL Sentral at around 20.00. Home Sweet Home ! A great outcome for our group's 5 days 4 nights free & easy (sing our own song) visit to Penang, the Pearl of Orient !
