In my earlier visit to north east China, I bypassed Changchun and visited Jilin town & Changbai Shan.
So after the Yanji visit, I decided to rest for 3 days in Changchun. The main purpose was to visit the Imperial Palace of the Manchu State. This palace is the former residence of Pu Yi, the last emperor of the Qing dynasty. It was an interesting visit and I took my time to view the exhibits & pictures narrating a true life of Pu Yi from an emperor to an ordinary citizen in Communist China; pictures of the 3 year old Pu Yi ascending to the throne and his short reign till the 1911 revolution; his role as the puppet emperor of the Manchuko; his marriage; rehabilitation life and until his death etc. Not an easy life at all for Pu Yi to go through the various ups & downs during the turbulent years in China during the early 19th century !
Next to the palace, you could also visit the National Museum of the Japanese Occupation of the North East & there was also a great exhibit of porcelain wares used by the empress Dowager during her stay in the Forbidden City in the late Qing dynasty.
The grand old & magnificent looking Changchun train station is an iconic building in the city. The water tower built during the Japanese Occupation is another landmark in Changchun.
