D-28 Saturday Sept 5 2026 (Urumqi, China) - my final day in Urumqi & we devoted a full day & visited (by public buses & DiDi) Minjie (Folk Street), International Grand Bazar Walking & Food Street, Erdaoqiao Bazar & May First Starlit Night market, all located in downtown Urumqi.
Public Transport: 2 town bus rides (CNY1 + 2) + 4 DiDi rides (CNY18 + 14 + 15 + 45 = CNY92)
1) My simple morning breakfast (CNY8 = Rm4,80) in a local eatery stall nearby my hotel.
2) Bus rides (CNY1 + 2) from Urumqi Railway Station South Square Passenger Transport Centre to Minjie, Urumqi, Xinjiang.
3) Mutton noodle dinner (CNY22 = Rm13.40) in Double Male Lamb Roasted Whole Lamb Restaurant in Mingjie (3rd Street), Urumqi, Xinjiang - a popular restaurant frequented by locals & foreign tourists in this famous Folk Street, downtown Urumqi, free Xinjiang hot tea & enjoying the friendly environment, the overall atmosphere, ambience & dining here ! You will be handsomely rewarded if you enjoy eating lamb / mutton / goat meat (hard for me to differentiate the taste which is lamb or mutton or goat meat as I am not a foodie !) with rice or noodle but just eat till the kingdom come when you have a group of like minded friends showing up in this famous Folk Street, Urumqi ! I am easily contented at this moment if served with a plate of mutton rice or noodle, Xinjiang style !
4) Xinjiang Minjie or Min Street or Folk Street, Urumqi, Xinjiang - a vibrant & commercial area located right in the heart of the Tianshan District, just a short walk from the famous Urumqi International Grand Bazaar; spent our afternoon & evening loitering in this place (taking candid shots from First Street > Fourth Street), enjoying the cool & pleasant, windy autumn weather + lunch / dinner - a day well remembered for my 1st visit to Minjie & 4th free & easy trip to Urumqi, Xinjiang !

7) Premier hotels nearby Minjie, Urumqi, Xinjiang
8) Commercial district area nearby International Grand Bazaar, Urumqi, Xinjiang
9) Erdaoqiao Metro Station (Line 1), Urumqi, Xinjiang
10) Erdaoqiao Bazaar, Urumqi, Xinjiang - the largest retail & wholesale market for ethnic minority goods in Xinjiang, nearby is the Erdaoqiao Metro station & the Urumqi International Grand Bazaar.
11) Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar, Urumqi - the largest bazaar in the world, combining Islamic architecture, local ethnic commerce & cultural entertainment, my 2nd visit in Urumqi for this trip ! Great vibes, an enjoyable & pleasant place for sightseeing (no dull moment here !), a must visit when in Urumqi especially in the evening !
12) Walkabout nearby the Urumqi International Grand Bazaar - observed a bigger crowd especially in the late afternoon & evening as today is a Saturday weekend !
13) Mutton rice lunch (CNY30 = Rm18) in Mong Yol Restaurant, Minjie (Folk Street), Urumqi, Xinjiang.
14) May First Starlit Night Market & Wanda Plaza, Urumqi, Xinjiang - the most famous & historic street food market in Urumqi, known as an open air culinary museum because nearly 90% of the stalls are run by local ethnic minorities who use traditional cooking, my last visit to Wuyi Market was in May 2006, a lapse of 20 years ! In Aug 2025, I visited the vibrant Hotan 2nd Street Night Market (a history of over 100 years !) in Renmin West Road, Urumqi.

15) Wholesale (Fashion Wear & Clothing) Market, Wanda Plaza, May First Night Market, Urumqi, Xinjiang.
16) Sun setting in Urumqi, Xinjiang - ending my day beautifully after 25 days of "roaming" the harsh & arid lands of Northern Xinjiang ! When the going gets tough, the tough get ready !
