Day 4 Sunday Oct 1 2023 (Part 2) - after the Pantai Merdeka & Kampung Agong morning visits, my group made use most of our afternoon & visited Tow Boo Kong Temple, Pek Kong Cheng Temple followed by a lunch in Butterworth (before hotel check in at 13.30) & a dinner in 888 Family Food Court near Icon City in Bukit Mertajam area.
Butterworth, Penang
1) Tow Boo Kong Temple, Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang - one of the most distinctive Taoist temple in Malaysia, famously known as Nine Emperor God Temple, grand architecture; vast, ornate Taoist temple with a a grand gate & 3 carved halls, constructed in 1971, completed in 2000 ! My last visit to this grand temple was in Sept 2022 !
2) My group's lunch in a coffee shop in Butterworth area.
3) Pek Kong Cheng Temple, Bukit Mertajam, Penang - built in 1886, also known as Hock Teik Cheng Sin Temple was the starting point of Bukit Mertajam town, the temple was gutted by a fire in July 2019 & many precious cultural relics perished in the fire, besides the temple, there is a newly renovated food court, very crowded in the morning & evening ! The area near the temple & food court was under renovation when I made a visit to this part of the Bukit Mertajam oldtown in Sept 2022 !
4) Pek Kong Cheng Hawker Food Centre, Jalan Pasar, Bukit Mertajam, Penang - food glorious food, authentic Penang hawker food style to your delight !

6) Icon City, Jalan Bukit Tengah, Bukit Mertajam, Penang

8) Our groups' dinner (ordered 4 Penang style hawker food ie herbal chicken, vinegar pork legs, vegetable dish & yam rice totalled Rm48 = US$10.20) in 888 Family Food Court near Icon City, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
9) Pek Kong Cheng & Food Court, Bukit Mertajam by Night - the food court was very crowded during the Sunday weekend !
