" South East Asia is the geographical southeastern sub region of Asia, consisting of the regions that are south of China, southeast of the Indian subcontinent & north-west of Australia. The south east Asian countries have an inter-government organisation called ASEAN consisting of 11 countries ie Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor) & Vietnam "
Both Singapore & Thailand are bordered with Peninsula Malaysia. Across the Malacca Straits, lies Indonesia. Myanmar & Laos are located on the north of Thailand & to the east is Cambodia & Vietnam. Brunei is in the island of Borneo surrounded by South China Sea & Malaysia (the states of Sabah & Sarawak). Philippines is situated in the west of Pacific Ocean. Timor-Leste is an island in Oceania, on the east of Java island, Indonesia. Timor-Leste (East Timor) is the only South East Asia country I have yet to visit !
South East Asia is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations & for a reason ie a tropical climate (warm & hot) all year round, rich culture, gorgeous beaches, wonderful food & last but not the least, low prices ! Each of the country has their own religious, cultural, natural & historical tourist attractions & iconic landmarks eg Petronas Twin Towers (Malaysia), Orchard Road (Singapore), Bali Beach (Indonesia), Floating Market (Thailand), Rice Terraces (Philippines), Golden Pagodas (Myanmar), Angor Wat (Cambodia), Golden Triangle (Laos), Mekong Delta (Vietnam), Water Village (Brunei). In each of this country, I enjoyed eating the local street / hawker / restaurant food eg Malaysia (char keow teow - fried flat noodle with shrimps or cockles, bean sprouts & eggs, Bak Kut Teh - pork rib dish in broth with herbs, Nasi Lemak - Malay cuisine fragrant rice cooked in coconut milk & banana leaf curry rice), Singapore (Hainanese chicken rice & chilli crab), Vietnam (fresh spring rolls & pho beef rice noodle soup), Brunei (Nasi Kato - fried chicken, chilli shrimp relish & white rice), Cambodia (khmer food consisting of a soup, salad, fish, vegetables / rice & fish amok - steamed coconut fish in banana leaves), Laos (larb - minced meat salad), Philippines (pancit guisado - fried noodles), Thailand (Thai congee rice porridge with pork offal, Thai desserts & sweet treats, tom yum & mango sticky rice) Myanmar (shan-style flat noodles with marinated chicken or pork) & Indonesia (satay, fried chicken & Bakso) !
