Go Dutch - Heritage Trail, Jakarta, Indonesia (visited 2017) - Downtown Jakarta was called Batavia, the old capital of the Dutch East India Co and became a Dutch colony in 1619; Batavia was used as a trading network in Asia by the Dutch which had monopolies on nutmeg, black pepper, cloves & cinnamon & other cash crops like coffee, tea, cacao, tobacco, rubber, sugar & opium. The Dutch rule Batavia for 320 years until the invasion of Japanese in 1942 during the 2nd World War.
