Our boat arrived at the Zigui county around 8.00am. A tourist bus awaited us and we were taken to visit the Three Gorges Dam located at Sandouping, 38km from the existing Gezhou Dam, near Yichang. The entire Dam (1983m long and 185m wide) project is located in the middle of Xiling Gorge. The total construction cost for this dam came to US75bil ! It has an annual capacity of generating electricity up to 84bil kwh !
1) Three Gorges Dam (Sanxia Daba), Yichang, Hubei - All visitors to the Dam had to be strictly checked at the front entrance before entering the dam area for a general viewing.
2) Yichang - I put up a night in a 2 star hotel (CNY60 single room) near the Yichang railway station. My next destination is Luoyang. I had a morning walk around Yichang city and savor some of the local food, cheap and tasty !

3) Together with a Shanghainese couple from the tour group, we had a dinner at one of the restaurant near the riverside of Yichang. Yichang is famous for its Chang Jiang fat fish, a local delicacy. So we ordered a live fat fish (2kg) and the chef prepared two delicious dishes for us ie steamed fish fillets and a hot fish soup dish made out of the remaining fish head and tail ! The meal together with a stir fried vegetable dish cost CNY210 and I contributed my share for this dinner. The most enjoyable meal I had eaten in this trip and with good company !
" Good food and friendship were the order of the day in Yichang ! I salute you - the mighty Yangzi River and the mammoth Three Gorges Dam - the world's largest dam and for China, a symbol of a new superpower in a making !
