India (Manali, HImachai Pradesh) July 2007 D-15

Our bus arrived in Manali around 11.00am at the new Manali bus station. My traveler buddy and myself then took a auto-rickshaw to Raj hostel as we preferred to stay in the quiet old Manali village. I paid Rs200=Rm18 for a single room. After settling down for 30mins, both of us began to explore the old Manali village, famous for it's apples. The village has abundance of apples orchards and apple trees were grown everywhere near our hostel area- so we were able to pick apples at any time of the day ! For me , it was like going back to the good old days of the 50's in my small hometown in Johor - pretty laid back, peaceful and easy going ! No wonder foreign and local tourists enjoy coming to Old Manali for honeymoons and jungle trekking.

The old Manali village is linked by a bridge to the new Manali town, a few kilometers away. Across the bridge, we visited the Hadimba Temple, built in 1553. The walls of the temple had wooden carving of dancers and horns of bull. We had our dinner at a Tibetan Kitchen along the side of a river

This morning from Keylong to Manali, we passed the Rohtang Top (3,978m=13,050ft) and a country town, Koksar. As we descended from the top, we saw a local tribe living in tents and some horses lazing around the living area. As we were nearer to Manali, we saw pine forests and the landscape had changed to more greener pastures as we moved downhill.

These pictures below were taken as our bus maneuvered its way from Keylong to Old Manali:

" Mountain scenery, tall pine trees, apple orchards, old stone houses, ancient temples, nature park - just relax and unwind yourself in this country town of Manali "
