Day 7 Dec 17 2023 - my 2nd day in Jaisalmer, using a rented bike (24 hr), both of us visited 2 desert camps in Sam Dunes, Jaisalmer War Museum & Gadisar Lake, a great start in this hill fort city of Rajasthan !
Morning breakfast at a roadside stall near the Jaisalmer Fort, both of us enjoyed eating the deep fried food ie dosa & vada etc
Morning stroll from our hotel > Jaisalmer Fort area to rent a bike for our outlying visits in Jaisalmer !
Bike hire from a bike rental shop near Jaisalmer Fort - 24hr rental Rp900 + Petrol Rp320 = Rp1,220 = Rm70
1) Suryagarh Hotel, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan - fort style luxurious hotel owned by MRS Group, grand Rajasthani architecture with a royal touch, beautiful courtyard & gardens, off the main road hence our short visit to this stunning property.
2) Ganga Desert Camp, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan - located in Sam dunes, ideal for a short stay & a nice experience of the Thar desert with camel ride & jeep safari & a wonderful view of the Thar desert, located off the main road so I just made an unannounced visit to get a feel of a desert camp !
3) Diwan-e-Khas Camps & Resort, Sam Sand Dunes, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan - located 45km from Jaisalmer, a 4 star luxury desert camp with 45 airconditioned luxury tents, dining & conference hall, open air amphitheater for folk music & dance with bonfire, green lawns etc; I just showed up & the local staff kindly attended to both of us & I took the liberty to take some pictures of this luxury desert camp .....
4) Kuldahara, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan - an abandoned village, established in the 13th century, once a prosperous village inhabited by Paliwal Bramins, internal roads in bad conditions hence a brief visit !
5) A local morning vegetable market in Jaisalmer, bought some fresh vegetables here !
6) Jaisalmer War Museum, Rajasthan - conceived by Lt General Bobby Mathews, AVSM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Desert Corps & constructed by the Desert Corps of the Indian Army.
7) Gadisar Lake, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan - an artificial lake, built by the founder of Jaisalmer, King Rawal Jaisal in 1156AD & later rebuilt by Gadsi Singh Bhati around 1367AD, located about 1.5km from Jaisalmer Fort.
